For Tanglewood Public Golf Course Clubhouse Manager Maylie Holt, the greens feel like home.
She started playing golf when she was 8-years-old in Columbia and sometimes played at Tanglewood in high school. Maylie came to Fulton as a William Woods University student. While there, she suffered a back injury, which made golfing a challenge. Coming to work at Tanglewood offered a way to stay in the golf world. She graduated in 2022.
“It’s a lot better,” she said. “There are still a few things and I work around it. I’m just glad I can swing. That’s why I was nervous about it. They told me six weeks after my surgery, I could start playing. I didn’t do that. I waited about six months.”
As Clubhouse Manager, Maylie runs tournaments at Tanglewood and oversees matters in the clubhouse. This also means she’s a point of contact and face of the facility.
“I have a lot of members and regulars that I’m really close with. I like talking to everybody every day,” she said. “That’s how the tournaments are, too. I’ve got a lot of members and regulars that play in the tournaments, and I see the same faces every year. I like those moments.”
When she isn’t at work, Maylie enjoys going out and golfing with her dad and friends.
“Golf is calming for me, and it’s my peace,” she said. “I just like going and being outside on the course. It’s like my home.”
