Along with mayor, city council, and city attorney candidates, voters will also decide whether the city will enact an adult-use sales tax on marijuana sales.
In a yes or no ballot question, the city is proposing a 3% tax on all retail sales of adult use marijuana. A “yes” vote puts the tax into effect, and a “no” would leave these sales untaxed. There is not currently a licensed dispensary in Fulton.
In November, voters around the state passed recreational marijuana use for adults 21 years of age and older with 53.1% of the vote.
Callaway County is also proposing a 3% sales tax on marijuana sales. Per state statute, if both pass, the taxes won’t stack. Consumers will be charged 3% whether a facility is in the city or county with funds coming to the respective agency.
