Dear Citizens of Fulton,
It is hard to believe summer is already wrapping up, and fall is just around the corner. While it’s gone by quickly, the City of Fulton and our staff have been hard at work.
The summer’s unusual weather presented several obstacles to our staff. Of course, the excessive heat is challenging for our men and women working outside, and I’m thankful everyone stayed safe this summer. The heat also caused a few instances of concrete buckling. Luckily, our police, fire, and streets crews responded quickly to get it addressed without incident.
Toward the end of July and beginning of August, we experienced some uncharacteristic storms in Fulton. Although there were a few power outages around town during these storms, we’re thankful nobody was injured. Our crews responded appropriately and worked as one cohesive unit. Due to their quality work, the outages only lasted a few hours.
Along with the unexpected weather events, the city’s regular summer activities kept on. The Oestreich Municipal Pool saw plenty of activity, including our first parent-child swim lessons. The overlay, micro-surfacing, and chip seal project will get started this month. Work on Business 54 is on track to finish this fall.
Heading into fall, our staff is working on several exciting events for Fulton’s residents. Fire and Parks and Recreation will be hosting a pop-up splash pad at Carver Park on Sept. 2, and a movie night at Fire Station One on Oct. 14. The Parks staff is also busy planning a fall festival for Oct. 21, a family Halloween Dance for Oct. 27, and the annual Turkey Trot for Nov. 4. With everything going on, we’ll have a busy fall.
On a personal note, I’d like to thank everyone who wished me well after my recent knee replacement surgery. Recovery is going great, and I’m excited to be back on my feet.
Sincerely,
Mayor Steve F. Myers
